The Blackwood Community Recreation Association Inc. (a "Not for Profit" organisation) operates the centre on behalf of the local community. A voluntary Management Committee consisting of elected representatives of user groups, local service clubs and a delegate from the City of Mitcham Council oversee the operation of the centre.
The Blackwood Recreation Centre boasts a two court stadium with state of the art wooden sprung floor, a Gymsports hall, fully equipped Fitness Studio, a number of multi-purpose spaces, four change-rooms and spacious foyer/eatery area.
The centre is the only facility of its type in the City of Mitcham, consequently we consider ourselves the focal point for recreation in the Mitcham Hills region.
Approximately 3000 people visit the centre each week. Many of the clients at the centre are multiple users of the facility and there are many family groups who use the centre for all their sport & leisure activities.
The centre is co-located with the Blackwood High School and provides for the sporting needs of approximately 1000 students, providing potential exposure to a large youth market
In addition to the sport & leisure activities available, the centre has established a fitness studio known as "The Rec". This facility caters for over 500 members who undertake individual programs or participate in the "50+ Strength for Life" program or attend a variety of fitness classes.
