About usThe Blackwood Recreation Centre is located on the Blackwood High School site and was constructed in 2004. The centre features a two court indoor stadium with a sprung timber floor, a permanent gymnastics area, fitness studio, supervised playroom, four change rooms and large foyer/eatery area. The Blackwood Community Recreation Association (BCRA) Incorporated, a not-for-profit organisation, operates the centre on behalf of the local community. The BCRA has a long and proud tradition providing recreation programs in the Blackwood area for over 100 years. Prior to managing this centre they operated a smaller indoor centre located on Coromandel Parade. A voluntary Management Committee consisting of representatives of participants, local service clubs, the City of Mitcham Council and the Blackwood High School oversee the operation of the new centre. The Association employs two full time staff and approximately 30 casual staff and instructors, to undertake the day to day operation of the centre. The BCRA has a series of aims and objectives which essentially are to promote and provide recreational opportunities for the whole community including clubs and people with a disability. The facility is an important regional sport and recreation facility for metropolitan Adelaide with many people visiting the centre each week. It provides a number of specialised facilities for gymnastics, trampolining, roller skating and in-line hockey. Additionally, the centre caters for the indoor sport and recreation needs of the Blackwood High School, through a joint use agreement. The school has access to one of the courts during school hours. The centre offers in excess of twenty regular activities including the full range of court sports, health and well being, dancing, in-line hockey, roller skating, martial arts, gymnastics and passive activities. Vision StatementThe Blackwood Community recreation Centre is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles through the provision of a diverse range of financially viable sport, recreation and leisure activities in concert with the changing needs of the community.
